KREAN Arquitectura was involved in the refurbishment of Zubiarte from 2015, from the very first sketches, finally taking charge of the design projects and site management. It is an urban shopping centre in the Abandoibarra district of Bilbao, where KREAN was already involved in the design and site management in 2004.

The reform aims to reorganise the commercial services on offer by regrouping the textile stores on a single floor, extending the areas dedicated to restaurants and adding large operators such as MediaMarkt, as new commercial "anchors". This strategy seeks to reposition the centre to enable it to compete with the strong commercial and leisure offer in the urban centre of Bilbao. At the same time, the visibility of the façades of the upper floors was improved by replacing railings and parapets with glass elements, repositioning the circulation elements in more visible areas and adding new backlit glass walkways, linking the different buildings and radically improving the circulation between businesses. The intervention was complemented by the commercial activation of the shopping centre by means of new play areas for children and food stalls, which aim to offer a new "experience" to the Zubiarte customers.
