Project:
Actions to Defend against Flooding of the River Urumea in the Martutene district of San Sebastián.
Promoter:
URA- BASQUE WATER AGENCY
Synopsis:
KREAN has been working for URA (the Basque Water Agency) for a number of years now in the Martutene district of San Sebastian to tackle the problem caused by the flooding of River Urumea. The works have been carried out in two phases, covering the total length of the riverbed to be transformed of around one kilometre. The width of the riverbed before the works was 25 metres. After the works it will be 50 metres, doubling the width. Where the geometry of the project permitted it, walls of laid breakwater or reinforced slopes have been built, in order to achieve a sympathetic solution that is as natural as possible. The river is accompanied by riverside walkways, which allow a relationship to exist between the river and the people.
En Phase 1 replaced an arched bridge and a footbridge with a central support with a modern metal bridge and footbridge.
Phases 1 and 2 include the construction of:
• A stormwater tank that manages the rainwater that collects in the streets closest to the drainage system.
• A wastewater pumping station
In phase 1, a drive was constructed under the river with a 1400 pipe for inserting a 1000mm diameter supply pipe through it.
In phase 2, another drive was constructed under the river with a 1500 diameter to carry wastewater from the right bank to the wastewater pumping station on the left bank.
The work of LKS-Krean started in 2013 with the drafting of itemised projects.
In 2015, work began on the first phase of the project, with a multidisciplinary team providing technical assistance to the URA Site Management.
In 2016, the project for the new Lugañene sewage pumping station was prepared, in this case for Aguas de Añarbe.
In 2019, work began on the second phase, with LKS-Krean providing Site Management services, with a multidisciplinary team.
