KREAN carries out the technical assistance service for the Management during the extension of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum.
The Bilbao Fine Arts Museum is one of the city's greatest cultural flagships and its current appearance is the result of several extensions that have taken place over the course of its century-long history. With a chronology that stretches from the 13th century to the present day, its prestigious collection includes a great wealth and variety of artistic expressions.
The extension project “Agrávitas”, drawn up by the joint venture Foster+Partners & LM Uriarte Arkitektura, will add a new exhibition hall which will open onto an open-air terrace and will be connected through an oculus to the mezzanine, which will be used, among other things, for education and outreach activities, and, below this, to a large visitor arrival point and reception area.
The first phase of the works has adapted the old building so that it can be open to the public for almost the entire duration of the work, while the internal services and the bulk of the collections not on display will remain in the museum for the entire duration of the process. The second phase, the extension and refurbishment phase, is scheduled for completion in August 2024.
