This project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Spanish Multiregional Operational Programme 2014-2020. Thematic Objective 7: Sustainable Transport, is part of the enhancement of the already implemented infrastructures of the Madrid-Extremadura HSL, with the aim of improving the quality of rail travel through the Autonomous Community of Extremadura.
The services comprise the following interventions:
- Design of the platform and track installation for the connection between the existing track and the HSL in the La Isla fork, in the vicinity of La Garrovilla.
- To convert the HSL at its passage through Montijo into a Banalisation Post that allows track change and the stopping of High Speed trains in Montijo.
- Defining the extension of the High Speed platform currently built, up to the San Nicolás Junction, and thel installation of single track on this section incorporating a new junction with the existing track.
The aim is to reduce journey times between Mérida and Badajoz, connecting the conventional line with the high-speed line and putting into service a high-speed section between the La Isla and San Nicolás junctions.
