The Gipuzkoa Environmental Complex was created with the aim of providing a response to the waste management hierarchy set out in the Integrated Waste Management Plan Progress Document, prioritising waste recovery, valorisation and energy recovery.
CMG1 (Gipuzkoa Environmental Complex 1) has been configured with a total designed waste treatment capacity of 242,362 t/year and a nominal capacity of 201,968 t/year. It is mainly composed of:
-
Mechanical-Biological Treatment Plant (MBT), designed to treat 162,185 t/year of the residual fraction of Household Waste (HW). It consists of a first stage of mechanical pre-treatment (with an estimated material recovery of 5%) and a bio-drying stage, designed to treat up to 154,075 t/year.
-
Energy Recovery Plant (ERP), designed to treat a total of 194,192 t/year of waste from the Bio-drying Plant (fraction remaining from HW after treatment at MBT), Assimilable Industrial, Commercial & Institutional Waste (AICIW), waste from recycling and composting plants, rejects from digestion plants, digestate at 60% m.s. and 75-90% dry sewage sludge from WWTP m.s.
The concession was awarded to Ekondakin, in which LKS KREAN has a 1% shareholding. It also prepared the construction project for the CMG Zubieta Joint Venture, responsible for the construction. In the works phase, LKS KREAN was in charge of Project Management and worked with Property Engineering for Ekondakin and as a coordinator for Steinmüller Babcock Environment.
