KREAN has designed, directed and managed in record time Eroski's new sustainable supermarket in the Lakua-Arriaga district of Vitoria-Gasteiz, being responsible for the drafting of the basic, activity and execution projects, the direction and management of the work, and assistance in the LEED GOLD certification.
The new building inaugurated on 30 November was designed, managed and built in eleven months, with the works taking just six months. It is the first implementation of the new model of centres that EROSKI will develop from now on, with the maximum commitment to reducing the environmental impact and the incorporation of renewable energies.
It has more than 3,000 m² on the ground floor, of which 2,800 m² are for the sales room, orienting its new image and format towards customer service. The upper floor houses the car park and service areas, with parking spaces for electric vehicles, bicycle parking under ramps, carefully designed lighting and natural ventilation, crowning the building with a photovoltaic roof. The whole complex has been designed to reduce energy consumption by 50% and to ensure that 100% of the energy used is renewable. In addition, more than 80% of the waste generated will be recovered in these new facilities.
EROSKI began the transformation of the environmental sustainability model of its surfaces in 2012, where it also had the professional experience of KREAN in the Recycling Platform in Elorrio and in the Zero Emissions supermarket in Oñati, the latter shop having BREEAM certification. In 2016 it opened a self-sufficient shop in the Ali Gobeo neighbourhood in Vitoria-Gasteiz and in 2020 an energy sustainable shop in Zizur. All of these steps are marked by its commitment to health and sustainability and to achieving zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
