Renovation work begins on the central building of the Vitoria-Gasteiz Campus of the Basque Technology Park.

In February, work will begin on the thermal production and renovation of the envelope of the central building of the Vitoria-Gasteiz Campus, the project for which was drawn up by KREAN after winning the tender for the project design and construction management.

The project is being carried out as part of the ‘Parke Verde’ initiative of the Basque Technology Park, one of the objectives of which is the energy self-sufficiency and sustainability of its facilities, seeking to reduce the carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future. This intervention is part of the PIREP framework and is aligned with Parke's decarbonisation objectives.

The new climate production is carried out by means of an aerothermal system with the use of heat pumps. The main objective of the intervention is to minimise demand by improving the thermal envelope, as well as to optimise primary energy consumption in the thermal production system, covering the building's needs in an optimal and sustainable way.

The general composition of the openings in the façades is respected while simplifying the detailing of each one, giving the image of the façade a greater lightness. The number of materials is reduced and ordered, seeking a lightweight architecture with aluminium and glass in the composition. In addition, the colours and detailing are played with to reduce the scale of the building and bring it closer to human scale.

The project involves the refurbishment of a building from the 1990s, which is the central element and a point of reference on the Vitoria-Gasteiz Campus. The main idea of the intervention is to maintain the current character of the building, giving it a contemporary and sustainable image.
